JAZZ LUNCH


Chairman Brett Jackson welcomed a company of 100 at the Grampian-Houston Association's annual Jazz Lunch at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa on Sunday, 29 January and Association President Provost Hamish Vernal said Grace.  The guests included Burgesses of Guild of the City of Aberdeen.


After lunch Ken Watmough conducted an auction of items donated to raise funds to send two Robert Gordon University student nurses - Chloe Sangster and Kimberley Tosh -  on a two week  visit to Houston in September, 2017 to study nursing education and healthcare provision in our Sister City.


Items sold included a mattress to be handmade at Glencraft's Aberdeen factory;  two tickets for any Eastern Airways flight from Aberdeen; a weekend self-catering stay for up to six at Greenlands on Ballogie Estate on Royal Deeside; bed and breakfast at the five-star Marcliffe Hotel and Spa and  the four-star Glenesk Hotel, Edzell; dinner, bed and breakfast at the four star Macdonald Norwood Hall Hotel.

Aberdeen and at the new Hampton by Hilton Hotel, Dyce; a Barbour Beaufort Jacket donated by Country Ways, Aberdeen, and a Haig's Food Hall Hamper donated by the Scottish PA Network.


The auction and a raffle raised more than £2900 towards the cost of the nursing exchange between the Robert Gordon University and Houston Baptist University.


Brett expressed the Association's thanks to all those who donated prizes and those who purchased them, the Struttin' Futrets who supplied the music, the Marcliffe Hotel, Marlene McLeod who was in charge of arrangements for the Jazz Lunch and to all those who supported the event.

THANKSGIVING DINNER 2017


Guest speaker at the Grampian-Houston Association's 2017 Thanksgiving Dinner at the Rpyal Northern & University Club was the Rev. Dr Will Stalder, a Californian who graduated in divinity at Aberdeen University in 2012 and who is now Chucrh of Scotland minister at Methlick, Aberdeenshire.


He is pictured (front left) with his wife Courtney, who is from Coldwater, Michigan, Councillor Alan Donnelly, Depute Provost of Aberdeen, Brett Jackson, who presided at the dinner, Councillor Ron McKail, Depute Provost of Aberdeenshire and and RNUC member John C.A. Michie,Aberdeen.


Brett thanked Dr Stalder for his entertaining speech and presented him with a gift token and Mrs Stalder with flowers.
