DEATH OF ROSEMARY RYAN M.B.E.

A past President and Secretary of the Houston-Grampian Association Rosemary Ryan M.B.E

died in Houston on 19 June, 2022 two days before her 95th birthday.

Her contribution to our Sister City relationship and her work in furthering U.S.-U.K. trading relations in oil and gas as the Clydesdale Bank’s representative in Houston for 18 years were recognised in 1995 when she was made an Honorary Member of the British Empire (M.B.E) in the Civil Division of the Queen’s Honours  List.

Born in Monterrey, Mexico Rosemary lived most of her life in Houston and after retiring from the Clydesdale Bank of Scotland,  she started her own business Ryan Technical supplying oil refining equipment  and representing various companies, including the Craig Group in Aberdeen.

A past Chairman of the Grampian-Houston Association  Ian Gordon, who was appointed the Royal Bank of Scotland’s representative in Houston in 1977, recalled first meeting Rosemary on her 50th birthday. “Her business reputation was such that my predecessor arranged the introduction before any other. With such a wide range of contacts she was a formidable business competitor. But, socially, business was forgotten and she was fun, never downbeat and over the years our families became great friends,” he stated. “She was indeed a character not readily forgotten and one who will be missed by all who knew her.”

She was predeceased by her husband Gerald and is survived by their seven children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
